  • In need of additional office space, the College of Medicine decided to renovate the existing fourth floor mechanical penthouse. The existing penthouse space contains two large HVAC air handlers and associated duct which heats and cools the entire building. The space was basically an attic space with sloped exterior walls reflecting the slope of the roof. Office suites were designed along an interior corridor that runs from one stairwell to the other to provide proper exiting for life safety. Exterior windows were installed in the roof gables to add natural light into the office suites. In addition to office space the renovation included conference rooms, file & work rooms, student study rooms, toilet rooms with showers and a Wellness Center used as a small gym containing cardio work out equipment.
